PEACE LODGE
Located on the grounds of La Paz Waterfall Gardens Nature Park and one
hour from the San Jose International Airport, Peace Lodge encompasses
the rustic past and natural beauty of the rainforest and the essence of
Costa Rica. We endeavored to create the finest quality accommodations.
The Peace Lodge was recently featured on the Travel Channel?s ?Honeymoon
Hotspots International?s as one of eight of the most romantic worldwide
destinations for honeymooners.
Each and every room boasts a Jacuzzi tub and stone fireplace along with
showers that transform into waterfalls with the turn of a knob. From the
handcrafted canopy beds and love seats to the original stained glass and
illustrated artwork you will understand the time and care put into the
details of each accommodation. To insure your enjoyment of the cool
mountain weather and view of the Poás Volcano, we built oversized
balconies complete with rocking chairs, hammocks and custom Jacuzzi
tubs. The experience continues with your choice of aromatherapy products
and our selection of fine quality linens and robes.
As you wander the trails of La Paz Waterfall Gardens your senses will
delight at the five waterfalls that line the trail. Originally, the only
way one could view the falls was by literally hanging over the side of
the mountain, looking through trees and ferns, not very inviting for
picture taking. With the construction of Waterfall Gardens, guests are
afforded views from platforms above, below and in front of the falls for
great photo opportunities.
The mixture of four parts water to one part sugar gives the hummingbirds
the proper nutrients they need to keep going (and going and going).
We have to be very careful that we have the exact mixture; otherwise the
birds will become fat and unhealthy. Another concern is cavities
(believe it or not) in their beaks from the sugar mixture. We also
sterilize the feeders? everyday to prevent the birds from contracting a
fungus from dirty feeders.
In Costa Rica there exists a great diversity of tropical habitats; this
diversity is reflected in the great variety and abundance of
butterflies. Approximately 90% of the butterfly species in Central
America exist in Costa Rica, nearly 66% of neo-tropical butterflies and
about 18% of all butterfly species of the world.
Since Waterfall Gardens is located in the Rainforest, we have made adjustments to our observatory by adding a covered viewing area near the laboratory. As you might know, butterflies are tuned into the inclement weather, rain clouds or not, they will head for cover at the slightest hint of rain.
Our Frog Exhibit has received rave reviews from our visitors. Our
mini-rainforest is enclosed but the frogs are not and you can see and
photograph them in their natural habitat. Our collection includes the
most famous frogs of the Central American Rainforest including the Red
Eyed Tree Frog, the Flying Frog and various species of Poison Dart
Frogs. Each night guests are invited to handle the friendly Leaf-frogs
during their most active period. You won?t want to miss this truly
unforgettable experience.
Fishing anyone? Cast a line in our two level Trout Lake. Catch dinner
or just have some fun! The Big Trout Bar is a great place to have
lunch, meet other guests over cocktails, relax in between hikes or
exchange fish stories. The deck is a great place to lie in the sun or
take a dip in one of our two Jacuzzis.
